Hi all, Im reaching out to seek some advice with regards to my broadband. Recnetly, Ive been having issues with my broadband cutting out randomly for a few minutes at a time, so ended up speaking to an advisor who ran through some checks and resets, etc, and now the broadband is 95% better (with regards to it dropping).
At the same time, I was persuaded to sign up to Sky Gigafast, of which I am still in the cooling off period. Ive checked my broadbands speeds via fast.com and right now (using local wifi) my speeds are 13Mbps!!..(The distance between this computer and the router is approx 5meters with open doors and nothing else blocking it. The sky website says everything is fine and speeds are 700ish. So I took my computer and plugged it in via ethernet (which due to its location, can only be temporary), and ran the test again, and it was about 700Mbps, so that would suggest whats coming through the door is a good speed.
I now need to work out why my local wifi is so slow. It averages 150-230Mbps, but like I say, has its moments when it is much slower. I ran the test via my phone whilst stood next to the router, and got the same slow result. Yes I have a few things running off the wifi (Sonos speakers, smart curtains, some smart plugs, etc), but Im surprised at how slow the local wifi can be. Is this an error? What can I do? Should I try another provider?

Local WiFi is a mine field to diagnose and resolve, everything and anything can interfere with the signal from your neighbour through to plugging a toothbrush on to charge
I have heard of people losing WiFi signal each night when the local taxi office opens and turns on their radios
Best to start with a clean line of sight in the same room and work your way out from there
