Lagging on devices

I keep getting lagging on devices in my home but speed test are showing good. Have went through troubleshooting with advisor on telephone and still no better. Sending a new router to me but I don't think this will make any difference. Speeds are showing 3x faster than previous broadband with BT but never had any issues with this at all.

@RL26 There is more to a quality internet connection than bandwidth (referrred often as speed) latency and jitter are as important but less widely discussed. Apps like Speedtest from Ookla reports on those parameters if you click through for the detailed results. Posting those will help identify your issue.

The most common causes of high latency and jittercare poor WiFi networking particularly if you have boosters. The second is the hub being busy so traffic gets delayed are there multiple users on your network? There can be line issues and also issues with the routes to distant servers but those are less common.

Re: Lagging on devices

not sure if this is detailed report you are looking for. Only 2-3 users online at a time using mobiles/tablets/tv and ring door bell. None of us gaming.

Unless you really need it I'd start by turning off Broadband Shield either through the MySky App or at https://www.sky.com/myaccount/bb-and-talk/broadband-shield

Re: Lagging on devices

Hello,

I have already turned this off again makes no difference. Sky techs very unhelpful as they are basically nothing wrong. I wouldn't be calling them if everything was fine.

Re: Lagging on devices

In fact what devices are you using most that are affected? You can change the DNS setting on individual devices to hopefully speed them up by changing the DNS settings to either Cloudflare  or Googles servers.

Cloudflare DNS

Primary: 1.1.1.1

Secondary: 1.0.0.1

Google Public DNS

Primary: 8.8.8.8

Secondary: 8.8.4.4

Re: Lagging on devices

I am getting another hub sent to me will this actually make any difference? They said I might have a faulty one

That's always a possibility, you may as well wait for the new hub and see how you go on.

BTW, how do you measure lag on a doorbell?

Re: Lagging on devices

Thanks it's due to come today so will see how it goes.

The lag from someone pressing my doorbell to get a notification on my phone can take up to 5 mins to appear. Both devices connected via sky broadband.
