@Cheryl_1 you should be able to connect to devices in your home like security cameras or hearing controls while you are away if they are set up properly and your Sky Hub is connected.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode

Re: It is possible to connect to my home broadband when on holiday?
As @Chrisee indicates, assuming the broadband connection and Hub are working, you should be able to reach resources on the home network behind the Hub, but only if those were configured to do so before you left. The Hub itself does have remote management facilities but that's switched off by default, and cannot itself be activated remotely.
What you cannot do is gain internet access using your home network or Sky Broadband more widely when away from home: unlike BT, Sky Hubs do not have a guest mode.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
