Is sky broadband checker fake

As above, it surely must be a fake check because it always says its fine and yet there is total outage of broadband in hastings today, they said there was secduled maintenance tonight (between midnight and 6am) but didnt even tell anyone to expect this (had to search for it to find why there is an issue)

Skys checker is fake, also their speeds are also fake as ive checked on multiple decives with different speed checkers and they are all showing considerably slower download/upload than whats advertised

If you contact them their employees also tell you that its all fine, does anyone/anything at sky tell the truth?

i can deal with slower speeds at times but unexpected outages combined with sky not knowing anything is not good

@Anonymous

Broadband is a regulated industry, and Ofcom has strong views about things being 'fake'.

The checker may well be somewhat unreliable, inaccurate and otherwise problematic but it's probably real.

The major issue with speed testing is usually the difference between speed arriving at a router and wireless speed to a client device.

I thought this too. I even tested it. Unplugged everything, and it said my connection to hub was ok..The hub that was in my hand... With no wires connected to it. Absolute rubbish.

Re: Is sky broadband checker fake

Fake test? No

Inaccurate test yes.

The test result on sky, is a snap shot of a moment in time. A test between sky and the sky hub. Underneath the result, it tells how long ago the test took place.

Anyone testing on a mobile phone, will have a fake result, because WiFi is slower then using a ethernet cable on a computer. Router stats give a clearer picture of what's going on, but no body reads the how to at the top of the forum.

Very true @HiHowAreYa as all of the forum superusers who answer loads of posts know only too well.

Some of us met with Sky recenntly and made exactly the same point quite forceably!

@Psyclepath the service checker shows the result when the test was run. The speed test appears more accurate than it was when this thread started as there was a tendancy for it to under record speeds on full fibre connections. The partial fibre speeds are a read out from the hub's modem.

There is no inducation it is giving false reports because, as @TimmyBGood pointed out, Ofcom would be down on Sky like a shot.

Re: Is sky broadband checker fake

I agree, I just checked it with Spped check app and it's poor, but Sky check says it's all great.
