Installation keep s getting pushed back

Hi,
I have ordered sky broadband on Aprill  11th and right after been told that need cable will need to be run to my property. Since then I had a few sms messages sent to me from sky with similar content.

Seems like the installation getting pushed back way past the promissed installation date.

I`ll have no internet access from 10th May, is there no way to get Sky to give me an installation date and i`ll just have to wait indefinetly?

Hi Dan just an update on your order. Openreach need to lay the casings which will protect the cables from damage. This will be from the telephone exchange to your property. Further work will be required when this is completed. You will receive a text with an update on your order on 13/05/2024.

Hi, just a quick update on your order. Openreach have told us there may be a delay with activating your services. We are working closely with Openreach to identify the work required to provide you with a working service. Don't worry, your billing for Broadband and Talk won't start until your services have been activated. You do not need to contact Sky, we will contact you with a further update on 22/04/2024.

Hi @DaNZas

Unfortunately this can happen when there is a problem with existing ducting or there isnt any to begin with. There isnt much Sky can do for you until Openreach have obtained the correct permission & an appropriate team is scheduled in to do the work.

I would recommend you look at getting some sort of mobile hotspot to keep you going until the install has been completed.

That does tend to suggest a very substantial project with associated digging, and so has wide scope for delay.  Realistically no ISP using the Openreach network could give you even an estimated date for completion.

@DaNZas

Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: Installation keep s getting pushed back

We had the same recently.

Various Openreach workers & visits involved getting the fibre into the hole in the street, then across the garden and finally down the side of the house & through the wall.

Asked the other people (VM) to move our cancellation by a month & they agreed. But despite that it went off on the originally agreed date & account closed etc.

So used a SIM with unlimited data & mobile hotspot to keep working & streaming etc.

The eventual activation date was about 6 weeks after the initial estimate.

Sky advised we are due £6.10/day compensation for delayed activation & will apply it to the bill.

6 weeks sounds like a looooooong time without internet.
Not sure if I should stick with extortionary VM

Certainly worth considering extending with Virgin until the FTTP cabling is in place.  No Openreach-based ISP can provide a broadband connection without that.

Re: Installation keep s getting pushed back

Yes in hindsight would wait to see how the fibre installation goes before putting in the VM cancellation, but happy to get a new customer deal with more for less etc with Sky, and the option to easily hop to a new provider when it gets more expensive at the end of contract 18 months later.
