Inconsistent WiFi Signal and speeds

We've recently upgraded from the 75mbs to 300mbs but it has become seemingly slower, and extremely inconsistent. When carrying out speed tests with a 3rd party tester it often is only reaching 100-150mbs rather than the 300 we pay for.

@OllieCambell unless you are testing on a device connected by gigabit ethernetthe speed test is likely to be just showing the speed wifi speed in your home which isnt guaranteed to be 300Mb/s.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Are you suggesting that they guarantee the 300mbs we pay for to the house and not what the router puts out?

That's correct: all ISPs do this because they have no control over the nature of the property (dimensions or building materials) or the local wireless environment.

WiFi from a router is always zero Mbs on the other side of a few walls.

The 'Enhanced Wall to Wall WiFi Guarantee' (if you have the WiFi Max add-on) is for 25Mbs.

Re: Inconsistent WiFi Signal and speeds

So realistically I don't need 300mbs if that's not what I'm getting in the house? is that right?

Very few individual devices 'need' anything like that speed anyway: streaming UHD video takes about 30Mbs at most.  One point of 300Mbs FTTP delivered to a router might be to have ten such devices in use simultaneously.
