Sky WiFi Max Is It now worth it
I have the black Sky Broadband hub, which isn't performing badly, but I'm not getting the best of my WiFi with it. WiFi has always been a bit hit and miss and currently have a sky broadband booster downstairs to boost upstairs. I currently have the gigafast service, with the sky q box and mini connected.
Sky are saying that they can offer the sky wifi max to me at the same sort of price I am paying for the boost. I have heard that the Q boxes work a bit better with the boosters but some people still have problems with the technology including having to turn off the WiFi 6 security to get it to work with sky q, hence negating the benefits of the router. What do people think is it now worth the hassle to upgrade or should I stick with what I have?

If you have Sky Q theres no point upgrading IMO. Sky Q offers either much slower speeds because of them hotspotting your connection, or too much interference because Sky Q Mini boxes communicate over 5ghz channels to transfer the data.
In my opinion Sky shouldnt sell anything higher than 500mbps - 1Gbps to customers who still have Sky Q.

Re: Sky WiFi Max Is It now worth it
oh yes we're glad we have the one gigabyte package because we did have it on a special offer. Otherwise, we wouldn't have gone for it But yes, I know what you mean about lots of people have been complaining in general about the Wi-Fi max and the router and they do say that it's a massive kerfuffle if you have sky q to upgrade it, and that you don't really get that much benefit from it that it can harm more than it can help. Because also the fact that you lose the hotspot and the fact that the sky Q is designed to work seamlessly with the mini And the booster and if you put something on there that isn't meant to be working in sync then sometimes it won't make that much difference upstairs

Re: Sky WiFi Max Is It now worth it
Next to the router I get about 550 but then when I go upstairs it goes down to about between 100 and 200 so I was thinking whether it would help to upgrade to the Wi-Fi max to get the most out of the Wi-Fi speed for the package that we have but it probably might not be worth it and might actually be worse and not really improve the Wi-Fi

WiFi can be a dark art at the best of times so you may well be able to improve your WiFi speed by upgrading to Max, however in the same situation you may actually harm you speed 🤣

Have the problems with the max and Q and minis been ironed out enough would you say to go ahead or is it still true you have to disable the WiFi 6 on the sky WiFi max to get the Q and minis to connect??

Re: Sky WiFi Max Is It now worth it
Given the low numbers of posts on it now i would say its less of an issue but trying to pair mesh technology that was developed in 2016 with WiFi 6 kit produced in 2026 is always going to have its challenges. I would personally be looking at changing to Sky stream if your looking for better overall WiFi.
