Re: Dont get gigafast fiber
@Marriottk first question how are you measuring speeds? If it is on a device connected by wifi I hope you are aware that unless you are close to the hub the result you see is likely to be the speed of the wifi connection? WiFi is affected by interference which may explain the drop in speeds at peak times if you live close to your neighbours. Reliable speedtests have to be run over a reliable network connection which is a gigabit ethernet connection. This should deliver the speed the hub receives. You can check the WiFi speed in your home by using a free app called WiFi sweetspots.
However that is only part of the story as every broadband connection is liable to be affected by contention as all share capacity with other users to make the cost manageable. Openreach fibre currently use a system known GPON which has a single fibre with a caoacity of 2.48Gb/s down supplying a distribution point which supplies up to 32 customers. Pretty obviously if your distribution point is full (and most are not) and every customer bought a gigabit service they can't all use the full capacity at once. However as most people only use a small % of the capacity at any one time it in practice this works for domestic connections. It only becomes an issue though if it affects your normal use rather than running tests. The only activity that can use speeds much over 100Mb/s is downloading. There is a fixation in the media on speed which as with the top speeds of cars is wrong as in practice you never reach that figure in normal use.
You mention moving to a provider who doesn't use Openreach but although there are different technical standards every connection risks contention as to provide a guaranteed uncontended connection is going to cost many times the cost of a standard connection and would be uncompetitive. Virgin Media for example have had numerous reports of contention issues at various times.ideally you want a network provider with few customers near you but they do tend to go out of business quite quickly.

I am hardwired ive reported this about ten times or more they use every excuse under the sun to not do anything about it or blame it on your side of things. even told me to cancel and use someone else great customer service that from a sky employee last employee told me there was a problem and wait 3 days cos openreach are doin the repair in 3 days 3 days go by problem even worse they test the lines out of peak times and everything is OK but peak times are absolutely a discrace

Re: I should be getting 600 mbps guaranteed but it is only giving 80-90 mbps
@Marriottk thank you for testing the forum's swear filter as you can see its working totally fine so no further tests are required.
Most customers get the guaranteed speed for full fibre connections but you are not paying for a unshared service which will cost many times more (between £300 to £500 a month). Openreach use a system call GPON on their full fibre services. In simple terms each customer is connected via a passive optical distribution point which has up to 32 connections which share a single fibre with capacity of 2.48Gb/s from the exchange. As you can see if three customers on the same distribution point ran speedtests concurrently the highest speed they could get would be around 800Mb/s.
Most distribution points are not fully sold but if you share yours with a lot of heavy gamers you can hit issues if everyone wants COD latest updare at once. This is contention which is how the internet works you share capacity. In practice very few people ever can use anything like the capacity they think they need in normal use so statistically the actual contention issues are rare. At some point Openreach will upgrade their systems to faster version but given it requires changing the ONTs in customers homes and more importantly the pricy kit inthe digital exchanges that the system requires dont hold your breath
No idea what your issue is but if you called Sky while angry I am not surprised you did not get much help.
