Hi I just joined SKY via uswitch, never done this before. I'm a little confused. Will sky contact my current provider (contract ends in a few days) to end that contract or do I have to call them myself?

If you get Brooadband from BT, Talk Talk or any isp who use the Openreach/BT phone lines Sky handle thecwhole thing. However if you are currently with Virgin Media or any other ISP who have their own cables you have to cancel yourself. Ofcom are trying to get this simplified butvtge new system isn't working as yet.
