Hardwired q box & turning of wifi clarification

We have just had our Sky Q box replaced due to what is thought to be a faulty ethernet socket on the box. The engineer replaced it and connected the ethernet cable and then via the engineer's code turned off the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi. My question is does turning off the wifi on the Q box stop it from transmitting or just stop it from receiving from the router e.g. does it still work as an extender on both channels?

Switching off Wifi will disable the hotspot functionality.  All WiFi is inherently send/receive.
