Gigafast wifi speed - I've paid for an upgrade but I'm not getting anywhere near the advertised spee
Any hints or tips. I've recently upgraded from Ultrafast (60-120mbps) to Gigafast. Within the first week I could see an improvement in download speed, averaging around 500mbps, now performance has dropped massively I'm at 100-300mbps depending on the time of day. Do you think I need a new Sky router? The Healthcheck says everything is good, but even when I commect direct to the router via an ethernet cable I only managed to achieve a download speed of 90mbps. Really dissapointed, its defintely not worth £60 per month.

Hi @Johnrich1
Ultrafast is never going to guarantee you get near 1000Mbps on a WiFi connected device, infact is almost certainly not going to happen in a traditional domestic setting with Skys hardware. 100-300mbps over WiFi is a good speed and there is no real world application for more than this speed to a WiFi client, especially ones like mobile phones.
As for your ethernet speeds, this sounds like you have either used a non compliant gigabit cable or the device you connected it to only has a 100mbps ethernet chipset, not gigabit. Make sure your using a Cat5e or above ethernet cable with all 4 pairs wired to it and ensure the device has a Gigabit ethernet controller.
