Hi Guys,
I recently got Gigafast and my installation date is this Friday. I'm getting a bit nervous as I was told a BT engineer would come to fit a small box to the side of my house. I haven't seen him/her at all and the days are counting down.
Does anyone have any experience in this and if so, when did the BT engineer appear? I'd be gutted to wait longer if the Sky engineer arrives and it isn't done for them.
Thanks a lot.

Just an update incase anyone else googles this question.
BT rang me on Wednesday to say they'd be coming Friday to do the whole installation as its only 1 stage. They rang me again Thursday to confirm.
Cheers all.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
Usually this kind of work would need to be completed prior to install or you will be delayed. Unless of course the work has been completed previously.
Have you checked your order tracking in the My Sky app to see if it still says on track?

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
@Smedly Openreach need to run the fibre from the street to the side of your house, all housed in a small box they attached to your wall. Fibre is then ran from this inside to the ONT (basically a fibre modem) which gets installed on the install day, your router then connects to this via an ethernet cable. Not unknown for the external works to get delayed due to blocked ducts or needing to dig. You will just need to wait and see but the install will get delayed if this external work is not carried out in advance.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which provisioning type is applicable.
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome
It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
Yo! The My Sky app on my phone just keeps buffering, not even loading!
I spoke to Sky who said it still says on track for an engineer on the 17th, but nothing about BT.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
@Smedly that page shows that Openreach anticipate a simple one stage overhead install so it is quite likely the engineer or engineers will do the external and internal work in one visit.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
Ah OK,
So with that in mind then, its likely the Sky engineer due on Friday will do all the work in one go?

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
Possibly, but very few Sky installers are qualified for work on Openreach poles.

Re: Gigafast - BT Engineer Appointment
@Smedly apparently some Sky engineers are trained to connect from a pole mounted distribution point or you may get two teams if the Sky engineer cannot do the whole job but hopefully it will be sorted correctly.

Openreach rather than 'BT'. Openreach Limited is part of BT Group but they specifically no longer use any BT branding because Openreach is the national monopoly network maintainer and can't be seen to provide preferential service. Technically 'BT' is just another of their client ISPs, as is Sky.
