Geting sky fibre installed

Hi could anyone tell me if i can get full fibre installed

10 years ago i enquired with BT they wantsd £3k to install line from nerest post approx 400 metres away

So i had to use expensive mobile it was 100 meg but limeted to 30gb its increased over the years to 600gb

BT installed a new box only 100 metres away now and were going to move it 30 meters away but it never happened.

So we are 110 meters from box  out in rural area  would sky even be able to arrange for BT to do install if i choose to use them ?

Been quoted 13-30 meg speed on line but i think they assume its down coipper wire like surronding properties

and i may end up with a faster speed, i just wonder if they would do the line being as its 110 meters ?

thanks

I have sky gigafast broadband 900mps full fibre to the property  but my is from the  telegraph pole to the property, if you already  have sky broadband  then you can check what upgrades  are available in your area  by going  on the my sky app/ broadband  and running a check  on there  or you could  ring sky and ask  them  to  check your  postcode  for you

That's not how it works.  Openreach (not 'BT' in this context) is deploying optical infrastructure up until the end of 2026 to bring 85% of UK properties within reach of gigabit (the proportion deemed 'economically viable') : beyond that things get rather uncertain.

If it's in the UK, putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which broadband provisioning type is currently available.

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.

Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: Geting sky fibre installed

Dont have any kind of line connected at the moment have spoken to BT evplained the situation and distances involved and they said ok i am yet to be convinved they will do it .

Friend put in for 900mb with Cuckoo i never heard of them they use openreach they had to run fibre cable acroos a main road with 4 junctions came out 6 times last time they decided they need traffic lights to do it.Fitted it on a sunday took 2 mins to get line across road must of cost a fortune with all visits.. He got a years free 900 meg and £100 for all hassle

That was a good 40 meter job.

Just have doubts with mine as they will have to bury a cable and no existing ducting at mo

@BRING+BACK+Discov If you have NO line, copper or fibre then sky cannot give you Internet, go to sky.com and see if you can even order with your address and postcode!

BT is the Universal Service Obligation provider, so in your case Sky isn't relevant.

Re: Geting sky fibre installed

Tried all of the above been on sky site to try once it said they could do it next time it said not. My sky tv is due for renewal and they asked about broadband  and looked it up for me , she had opinion it could be done through them.

BT/openreach are coming out on Monday  they know all details and distances so hopefully i will find out.

After watching the openreach fiasco at my friends im not confident its going to be a one visit job

Re: Geting sky fibre installed

Update openreach contractor arrived monday morning nice guy found us in end just expected to install outlet ...lol

Told him i had explainded situation he just laughed and said typical and said he would pass it to surveyor.

2 hours later i got a phonecall open reach were outside themselves.
We took a hike down to box  walked back and said not a chance it would need 3 poles in his opinion and it would run well over £3400 thing.

Low and behold get a phone call this morning its openreach survyour  outside

We take a hike to box he can not believe its been put in  such a stupid position., hike back to property.

He gets a plan up on phone of properties and box position  and it shows ducting runs from box past my property and in his opinion they can thread cable up ducting break in ducking make a manhole place a pole directly outside property and run line to property.

Great i said, hold on he replied it goes to costing department they will need traffic lights ect if cost goes over £3400 its a no go.

He posted public notice on fence  of intention to place post..

So fingers crossed i get my 13-30 meg broadband  installed lol

PS thanks for all the replies

Re: Geting sky fibre installed

What a typical BT  fiasco

Surveyor came out recons ducting runs from green box past my place so basicly its thread cable 110 meters and put in a post and connect to property.

Recons they need traffic lights ect , fair enough its busy road at times. Said it may be over the £3k thing.

To make maters worse next day they repaced a post 300 meters away had traffic lights ect here.

Wait 6 weeks no phone call or email follow up

Got a text this morning ring them re cancelled order ?

Ring up apparently its been cancelled because we never responded to the email they never sent stating there would be aditional costs of £2100

I explained that i had not recieved any contact after surveyors visit.

So now they have to start the whole process again including surveyors vist  , see why broadband is so expensive now

Still think total cost of £5500 is OTT  for 30 meg speed

They recon box has fiber up to it, they have to connect me to box and i can not have full fibre

Openreach.

BT in this context is an ISP and telco in competition with Sky.

Openreach Ltd is wholly owned by BT Group, but required to provide equal service to all ISPs on the national network.
