Most likely gonna have crypted feedback and unhelpful rants but need to post this cos i already spoke to GLiNet and they said its down to my ISP to release a new IP for the modem.
"For the WAN port not getting IP, it maybe becuase that your ISP modem does not accept a new router immediatelly.
So you can do the following:
Clone the old router's MAC address to the Marble router. This should work immediatelly. But not the best solution because later you may change router or reset router and forget what you have done before.
Reboot the modem. If not working immediatelly, you may need to wait longer so that the modem accept new MAC addresses. Or call your ISP to reset the modem.
It also could be that you didn't use the correct settings. Find out the settings from your old router and set up exact the same."
Did all this but no luck so now its down to sky to release a new IP so i can use my third party router
Or if you can be helpful, and i know some of you are. Please help me understand the reasons behind the issue im facing...
Thank you

MAC cloning to use a non-Sky router hasn't been required for many years: articles online which refer to it are long out of date.

Hi Timmy,
So how can I get the ethernet to work?
They said its literally a matter of disconnecting the cable from your current ISP router and having that cable put inside the GLiNet router. At the back of the router has a WAN and 2 LANS.
In settings, I can change the WAN to another LAN making it have 3 LANS and the original modem from openreach is a LAN connection. So assuming the router needs LAN access and not WAN. I have already tried this method and also a straight forward WAN setup at the start to initiate a handshake
The wifi works and is active because I looked at the attached devices and they connected automatically to this GLiNet router called 'marble'
But the darn ethernet cable is not working?
I changed the cable with 3 other eth cables but same issue
What am i doing wrong

I suspect that's extremely optimistic.
A router port connected directly to an ONT is a WAN connection, not LAN.

I thought this being the internet and all
But the physical modem states clearly on the box LAN not WAN
Below is example of modem i have

That's an Optical Network Terminal.
The ethernet port on the ONT needs to be connected to a router port designated as WAN, not LAN, because the router needs to pick up a public IP address from an ISP DHCP server on that interface.
If you were using the supplied Sky Broadband Hub or Max Hub (or even a Q Hub) you would be patching between the ONT and eth #4 on the Sky hardware, marked WAN (even though it's also a switch port)

Oh, and the Eth cable thats in the LAN port from the modem connected to the GLiNet router's I firstly added this to the LAN port but no link, so I put it in the WAN and it linked..however, still , no internet connection from Modem WAN "LAN" - WAN Router

True, true, its connected and established a link but no connection?
Am i missing something when it comes to IP4 settings on the router or something?
Do I need to add in these blank areas with SKY's IP or the GLiNet IP???

This is the manual for the router, should I add what they show in the photo?? or should it be skys info??

...dont know what to do...send back the router...throw it out the window and hit someone with it

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@FinnieFinFin the router needs to support Sky's authentication system in order to connect. These are as follows
DHCPv4 Option61 with an identifier string anything@skydsl|anything which works on all lines or
DHCPv6 PD with no identifier string which will work on between 70 to 80% of lines.
I believe the GLI net unit support open wrt which can be configured to support either but thst is limit of my knowledge

Thank you @Chrisee
I have posted GLiNet to help me with these raised questions and im greatful for your help 🙂

Okay, seems most of us have been doing this wrong all along

Is wrong
Its actually, 616e797468696e6740736b7964736c7c736b7964736c
So, 616e797468696e6740736b7964736c7c736b7964736c means anything@skydsl|skydsl
But where does this hex table go? where do i enter all this info? is it for ipv4 or 6? and if so where do i add this?
The router i have is this marble b3000 from GLiNET. Its their new home router but not sure where i need to add the sky credentials

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@FinnieFinFin I suspect the default firmware of your router does not supports either of the required authentication methods Sky use which are DHCPv4 Option 61 or DHCPv6 PD. It apparently uses a system called OpenWRT so you maybe able to flash it to add support but you would need to understand what thst process involves. However i have never heard of the need to enter hex strings..
You can use your router behind a Sky hub in a double NAT configuration.

That would be something of a surprise for everyone it has worked for over the years.
