From super fast to ultrafast plus
Hi, currently we have super fast broadband running around 60mbs and would like to have the faster 500 if it's worth it. We refurbed our home 3 years ago and put cat 5 in for connection to the old copper line. My questions all surround what need to happen to switch. I realise openreach will do their bit outside but given that we've got cat 5 embedded in walls now will that suffice for the connection where the line comes into the house and if so what other mess is involved? As we've decorated I'm not looking to have it done if they need to butcher internals. Thanks in advance and sorry if it seems obvious to some.......just want to know what to expect. Steve

Re: From super fast to ultrafast plus
A fibre-optic pigtail has to enter the property, typically through a newly drilled hole, and an ONT ('fibre modem') is installed, usually wall-mounted, at the end of this.
How you then use your own cabling, potentially between the ONT and the ISP router, and then router to devices, is up to you.

There is no 'connection to the old copper line' in an FTTP deployment.

Re: From super fast to ultrafast plus
@Balloon-Dancer I upgraded my own Superfast service to Ultrafast+ service. Apart from the pain of getting a new fibre service run to my home which took 3 months, multiple visits. missed appointments etc You can see what Openreach expect to have to do to get fibre to your home by entering your full address into the following checker if you need help understanding the output post tgectable and first few lines of the notes in the forum after removing the reference to your address DSL Checker
However the actual switch to my home network was simple once the ONT was installed. If you already have a SR203 Sky Broadband Hub the switch is literally just unplugging the lead to the phone socket and connecting the new ONT unit to Ethernet Port 4 on the hub and the job's done - Sky send you a conversion kit which literally is a 1.5m ethernet cable!. Worse case is switching from an older Sky hub to a new SR203.
