Firmware bricking SKY max Router

Woke this morning to the red light of doom. Rebooted, reset the fibre connection box, ended up waiting for 8am (broadband issues only apply during working hours it seems) - this all after the shockingly poor website connection tests stuck in a loop of 'let's test and fix your connection to 'we cannot seem to test it right now as there is an issue, try again later' - end of fixing journey. So after being advised to try hard reset (seems the new boxes cannot be switched on and off without pulling out the cable) it gets to the 'checking for firmware'....... boom. Red light. Box poked. Obvious something software related. Box is a few months old.. recently upgraded to full fibre gigabit.. seems the hardware provided to enable this is poorly built or prone to software issues.. so now I've a child who's last few holiday days has no interwebs, my wife has had to go into the office and I've had to take an emergency day off as unable to log in to work effectively... Anyobe else get their new box borked by a firmware update or am I 'special'..??

Unfortunately things happen, hardware dies, especially during firmware changes. Nothing you can do about it and you'll just have to wait for a new router to arrive.

It shouldn't on kit a few months old. Even the sky engineer I spoke to admitted it's a poor bit of kit and not well designed.. they've also given it to Royal Mail so not accurate tracking either.

There are proportional failures on all tech that comes out of factories its just unlucky you have had a faulty one. I had a brand new Samsung phone one year that died after 2 weeks, random things happen.

Re: Firmware bricking SKY max Router

Indeed. But I doubt employees of Samsung feel their kit isn't up to the task at hand..  Am now at the mercy of Royal Mail delivering, it's already been rescheduled from 'before 12' to 19:30 approx..
