Fibre

Sorry to those that know but I live quite rural and at least some of my connection is copper and not fibre, do I need fibre all the way to use the the broadband / tv package?.

Also all the advertised packages have a price - do I need to pay for the bt line separately or is that part of the package price.

Apologies for what might seem obvious questions  - I've got to 62 and only ever had freeview which is now getting dreadful!!

 Cheers Graham

Re: Fibre

@Merlin5 With sky the Talk line is included in the Broadband package and if you have a tendency to use the landline then best to look at one off the call packages to addon or it gets very expensive very quick when calling. Below is the BTW line check so use it to see what you can get to your home with speed on hopefully a fttc connected line, use your address and postcode to check.

The download/upload speed determines everything needed on a connection, once you know that you can see what stream level you will be able to do...

BT Broadband

Sky has a chart based speed expected draw in the link below which may help.

@Merlin5 Sounds like you have a partial fibre feed so before considering switching to streaming TV you need to find out the speed that line will deliver. That depends on the length of the copper line from the cabinet so isnt something Sky or you can control. You need a minimum of 35Mb/s according to Sky which is a sensible figure. If you already have a broadband connection run a test on Fast.com using a device like a phone connected to the WiFi near your router. Otherwise Sky's online checker should show if they think the service will work but its a bit more of a guess.

Yes you need an Openreach line (that is the BT company that operates the network separately from BT retail) but Sky's price includes the line rental and they will provide a voice line at no extra charge except for any calls you make.

The last consideration is whether you are giing to hit issues with streaming video over WiFi. In a modern open plan home that should be not be an issue but in the older UK home with solid walls a 2 bed cottage can be an absolute pain. Stream works well with a good wifi connection and an absolute pain if it doesnt have one.
