@Grrrrr1 short answer is no its not plug and play as construction of any kind rarely is and while most installs go smoothly some dont. Last week a poster reported a 7 month delay my own delay was around 8 weeks. There is compensation payable for late provision see Customer Auto-Compensation | Sky Help | Sky.com
Normally this is not an issue as under the One Touch switching system Sky would liaise with Virgin and your old service would have remained in place until the new service is installed but as apparently you cancelled the Virgin service yourself that doesn't apply.
