Ethernet cable connections

Hello What does the ethernet cable in the broadband hub do? It connects to my Sky tv box but nothing seems to change on my tv when I unplug it.

Most Sky+ HD boxes still in use and all Sky Q boxes are capable of WiFi connection.

Presumably you're connected via wifi, you can go to the network settings and change it to the wired connection if you have a weak wifi connection to the box.
