Double NAT & plex issue

Hi all,

I know the Double NAT issue is not uncommon on here but this is my situation/issue:

1) Using a sky max hub for broadband . This has had its wifi turned off and is wired into 2 below:

2) Have 2 Asus XT9 wifi mesh nodes around the house (wired backhaul) which are doing all the DHCP

3) Plex runs on my synology nas which is wired in via an unmanaged switch (which everthing else is connected to

The issue is that Plex cannot be accessed remotely (ie uses relay mode which is pants).

What I've tried:
1) reserving a specific IP in the sky router for my main xt9.

2) setting up port forwarding to that IP

3) setting up port forwarding to the IP of my NAS in the XT9

4) didn't work as I still get the issue around remote connection

Also tried:

1) reserving a specific IP in the sky router for my main xt9.

2) setting up DMZ on sky router for that IP

3) setting up port forwarding to the IP of my NAS in the XT9

4) didn't work as I still get the issue around remote connection

Any suggestions of what I could try next/what I'm missing? Thanks!!!

Re: Double NAT & plex issue

So an update.....using the DMZ option, I've mananged to get it working (yay!)

Now my issue is the 2nd plex servier (run from my desktop) won't connect.

I've set up an alternate port (32401 rather than 32400) for this but still get the relay issue..

@maguinea your set up sounds overly complicated unless you are still on a FTTC service why not connect the Asus units to the Sky line? I believe they should connect directly to the ONT using the DHCPv4 Option 61 method to authenticate the connection. If you are still on copper consider buying a cheap TP-Link modem router which do have a modem mode. However you do lose the Sky voice line.

By using the DMZ you are bypassing the Sky hub's firewall but you still have double network address translation.

Re: Double NAT & plex issue

@Chrisee Thanks for the feedback.

To clarify we're still on FTTC (though FTTP is due in a month) hence my method.

What is the best way to use option61 once FTTP is here? I see option 60 & 61 in my XT9 admin page but not sure how I would use this to avoid using the sky hub?

@maguinea you connect the Asus units WAN port directly to the ONT's etnernet port. In the set up on the Asus units you choose DHCPv4 Option 61 and enter the log in string as follows

User anything@skydsl  Password Anything if only one field join the 2 with a pipe symbol |

The znything string can literally be anything it doesnt matter but the user name must end @skyds. If you search the forum. you will find walk throughs for connecting Asus kit. Sky dont care but if you get a fault you will need to reconnect the Sky hub to get support.
