Difficult Internet installation

Hello

In my building, there are apartments and cables, and all the apartments – Sky has the entire installation… They're the only internet provider… Less than two weeks ago, I made a transaction on the Sky website – for a 150Gb or 300Gb connection… – I don't remember… On August 15th, I received an email notification, telling me to wait for the router, that the connection would be up on September 1st.

Well, time flies… – and there's no router…. I called them yesterday – it turns out they have 116 in their database instead of 119… Flat6… I don't know who entered it…. Another thing is that the building has two numbers – and it's problematic for such matters. Should I save both numbers, or just the first one? On site we have 119-125 and 119.

The transaction was canceled. I'm trying to make another one, but I can't…. Either I get a "Technical Problem" message or a message that another address is linked to my email address.

I don't care about address issues—I'd like to have internet at home, and you're the only provider of this service... What do I need to do to get it? Is it difficult?

Best regards

@Sebastian8 are you talking about Sky UK or Ireland?  Given they do not own the networks they use so should not have a monopoly supply situation in a building or at least I have never heard of them doing so.

Assuming you are talking about Sky herecthen you will have to call them if tge order has not been placed correctly. Normally what happens is the old incorrect order is cancelled and replaced with a new order.

That's extremely unusual: without being specific, whereabouts is this?

Yes, I'm in the same situation... There was some problem with the address, there's no router, I don't see any internet cables - I don't know where it's supposed to be connected... The transaction was deleted, I can't make a new one... I'm cut off... - luckily I have a mobile phone :).

Re: Difficult Internet installation

In northern England - I called Sky yesterday and today... And what they did was delete that order, but I can't place a new one... - because I get some error message telling me to call a certain number... I called... It didn't help...

I'm not aware that Sky Broadband has a monopoly anywhere in the UK, and I don't see how that's technically possible anyway given they use the national Openreach network which is open to multiple competing ISPs.

I guess a building owner might insist on exclusivity in its residency contracts, but that's different (and frankly pointless)

I suppose it's possible this is actually See The Light broadband over an OFNL circuit.

Re: Difficult Internet installation

I asked the neighbors about this... it's a house with apartments. They said there's Sky everywhere.

Quite possibly, but that's not the same thing as a broadband monopoly: it would typically refer to a communal satellite television coaxial cable distribution system from a shared dish.

A rather rarer version is satellite television over local fibre optic distribution from a more distant dish.

cables..., I don't care about any of that... They can delete the transaction - but I want to make it correct, not keep doing this error-message...

They are, nonetheless, somewhat significant.
