I have gigafast and a black sr203 router. I also split channels (2.4 and 5 ghz SSIDs).
Firstly with channels - Have recently been getting performance problems, mostly on the 5ghz router with speed tests dropping to like 10mbps and sky hub streaming having issues as a result (along with other things I connect to the 5ghz SSID).... A router reboot sorted sometimes (speed jumping back up to 300ish), but not always, and not for long. I have now switched the 5ghz settings to use 40hz channel 44 and again this seems to have sorted for now (although internal speed is around 250mbps right next to router - hardly close to gigafast!).... Any other tips or suggestions around internal performance here?
Secondly - line speed to router through the mysky app shows consistent less than 600mbps guarantee - daily average of 560. In this case, if I were to get them to downgrade me to ultrafast would it be capped at 500 or would it go over to the max I seem to be getting anyway? Or worst case, would it actually drop lower than what I have now?! Is there anything they can do in terms of the line speed when they estimate I should get between 750-900 or a lost cause there?
Thanks.

For anyone else in similar situation - obviously won't be same issues but food for thought.... I ascertained the connection to house and ONT/Router itself was fine (more than 900mbps in actual performance), but WiFi performance, even close to router, struggled around 30-59mbps (2.4ghz) and max of 250ish but generally about 100mbps on 5ghz.... other places in home obviously worse than that even with sky boosters in place.
I pulled the trigger on an ASUS ZenWiFi setup (BT8) - main router plus 1 node for AIMesh. I now get more like a consistent 250 to 300 plus performance everywhere in home on general devices (except IOT/2.4g limited ones of course), and on newer devices like iPhones/Macs/iPads will get more than 700mbps up to near to full 900, on just WiFi, even if far from router - due to WiFi 6/7 support.
Conclusion - no surprise that the standard Sky router not great, even with boosting and accepting its wifi5 even then. Maybe an antenna issue in my unit of course, but right now happy with new setup and due to more intelligent traffic management, I don't need to split bands any more either.

A properly function Openreach optical circuit should always be capable of delivering gigabit throughput, which suggests your 'line' has a fault.

Find out more@philip23333 if you are using the speed check in the Sky's Service Checker that can under record which is an issue Sky are aware of it is worth running a test on a device connected by ethernet as that msy giveca higher result. My own connection regularly shows as being below 400Mb/s while my own tests show 500Mb/s consistently.
My own experience with a SR203 is thatclose to the hub I would get consistent 500Mb/s the limit of the connection and in tests WiFi speeds topped out around 650Mb/s which is not bad for a WiFi5 device. My hub sits on a surface and is out in the open which helps and I had not split the bands which should only be done if you have devices that wont connect until you do. However range of the 5GHz signal is significantly less than the 2.4GHz band and will be affected by the layout and type of construction in your home. To get usable WiFi I boughta three unit home wifi system which gives me 200Mb/s in the most distant rooms.

Ok - so the sky tests being 'a bit under' may be an overestimate - just did a direct Ethernet test with a MacBook and got 915mbps! Compared with sky's line test showing 560 average. So looks more and more likely a WiFi performance issue (same MacBook on WiFi in same place next to router is 245mbps) - I know would be less, but that's a lot less. Ethernet links round the house isn't really an option right now - and power line plugins are pretty bad here (have tested previously), so I really need to look at a better 3rd party router with more power/coverage and some mesh boosters it looks like... although that performance sitting next to router when I have had up to 500 or more in WiFi performance in tests before, suggests.. something

@philip23333 my experience with an Asus XT9 is also very positive. I have 3 running in AP mode from the hub. Speed at the 2nd hub on the first floor is 893/87 up which I am more than happy with. This is utilising the wireless backhaul too.
Depending on which Sky equipment people are using, I think a number of customers would benefit from buying their own mesh system to improve wifi around their home.

Agree - but usual caveat and disclaimer on no support from Sky until orig unit plugged back in, and loss of the voice line..... Really Sky need to open up more official acceptance of 3rd party router use, or really upgrade their stock offerings (not hearing much positive on the new wifi6 version)
