Consistent latency issues

Every day around 8pm my ping spikes to around 1700ms when it usually sits idle at 12-13ms. I've tested whether this was an issue with my pc but it appears everything on my pc is completely fine. I've just run a speedtest from two other devices when I noticed the spike and the latency is showing around 1700 from those devices too so it's clearly an issue with the wifi itself but not too sure what to do about it

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound862 Switch all the wireless devices off one by one until you find it! If you have channel interference from external source then nothing you can do about that!

@Inbound862 sounds like you are suffering from a burst of radio interference. As the effect is short lived it could be being caused by a switch sparking when being turned off or on or a faulty device like a microwave. While the source could be outside your home so unavoidable it is more likely to be local so consider what happens at the same time for example someone is using an old electric kettle to make a hot drink.

Re: Consistent latency issues

Hiya, I'm honestly not sure at this point

I hadn't noticed during the week as I was at work but it's not just at 8pm that this spike happens. It's consistent throughout the day, doesn't appear to have any clear common factor for when the spikes happen. Today it's happened 8 times so far between 2pm and 7pm, not a single time when the ping spiked was anyone using any kitchen appliances or downloading on other devices so I'm very lost to be honest. The signal strength seems to be averaging around 85 dBm if this is relevant at all

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound8621 That is a very poor signal strength no matter what, the higher the -db then the worse it is, took a look at mine just now on Netspot and connected at -28db which is excellent in the least, mid 60's you are heading into connection area issue's. Router twenty foot away through a brick wall and a door is at -62db which is fair!

Re: Consistent latency issues

Just had a look on NetSpot it;s currently at -68, The router is in the garage through a brick wall on the other side of the house to where I am. Is there anything you recommend trying? We never had this issue until recently it seems to have just gone downhill. Could a firmware update help potentially?

@Inbound8621 Are you the same person from the start as @Inbound862 just so i can re-read and follow from the start!

I am yes! Original post was made on my parents (account holder) account but I don't have login details so had to make my own 😅

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound8621 Run the following below ping command on your pc as where it is via and admin command prompt. It is a 10minute run time and when it is finished paste the 4 line result just as you see it further below. I will run the same on mine FF500 wireless wi-fi connected starting it off now and post my results up!

ping bbc.co.uk -n 600

This below is what i want to see from you.....

Ping statistics for 2a04:4e42:400::81:
Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 20ms, Average = 17ms

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound8621 Ten minute run, wife on hers wireless, daughter no doubt on the PS5 gaming wireless, plus my laptop running the test.

Ping statistics for 2a04:4e42:400::81:
Packets: Sent = 600, Received = 600, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 72ms, Average = 16ms

And this was the start as the network settled which is fairly normal for a wireless connected.

Pinging bbc.co.uk [2a04:4e42:400::81] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=28ms
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=17ms
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=29ms
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=46ms
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=72ms
Reply from 2a04:4e42:400::81: time=15ms

Re: Consistent latency issues

Just seen this, running the test now and will post once it's finished!

Re: Consistent latency issues

Ping statistics for 2a04:4e42::81:
Packets: Sent = 600, Received = 599, Lost = 1 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 120ms, Average = 12ms

If I notice that the connection massively spikes I'll run it again and post the results for that, at the moment it seems relatively normal

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound8621 Agreed from that posting nothing to dramatic and only one lost packet! and below a very intensive speed test that does a very detailed testing.

When you get time draw up the details what hub, what devices connected Ethernet / Wireless wi-fi, Extenders/Mesh/Sky Q etc anything that throws the spanner in the works, reason why the Hub is in the Garage and important what type off connection Fibre/Copper + Speed you have. You can PM me if you wish to keep it private!

Packets: Sent = 600, Received = 596, Lost = 4 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 6ms, Maximum = 1361ms, Average = 42ms

Re: Consistent latency issues

@Inbound8621 Take a quick look up and down the results to see what the spike timing looks like, pretty sure it's going to be wireless related. Sent you a PM.

Edit:- What hub do you have connected and are you all wireless with no etherent connections as you say the hub is elsewhere located.
