Changing to Sky Superfast and Talk

I am considering changing from Vodafone broadband and landline charges to Sky Superfast & Talk which is free.  I have seen references to an intermediate  ATA device for connecting my existing Panasonic KX TGD620EB base staion to the new hub.  Will I really need to pay around £50 for an ATA or will the Sky Superfast hub not require an ATA, perhaps it has a built-in one.

Don't know what you've been reading but there's an ATA built into the Sky router, so your phone plugs directly into that.

Just in case you weren't aware, the "free" element is the ability to make/receive calls. All calls are chargeable unless you also take a calls package.

The broadband hub and sky max hub do have an ata adapter built in

Many thanks FLC, I was not aware of that.  It is not brought out in there promotions.  Perhaps I will stick with Vodafone at half the Sky price

Re: Changing to Sky Superfast and Talk

I am thinking that we will use our mobiles to make calls.  So is there any reason why I need to have any calls package from Sky to be able to just receive calls on our existing number?

No, receiving calls is free.

Although just a word of caution. If you have iPhones & rely on WiFi Calling, there's a good chance that won't work with Sky.

Quite happy to sue the 4/5G facility, so should not be a probelm.

That does depend on the hub you take and other factors, plus a fix is on the way (hopefully): https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Sky-broadband-stopping-WiFi-calling/m-p/4850826

What are the 'other factors' Sterohaven?  I am planning just the Superfast broadband from Sky.

The current problem seems to be mostly an issue with the newer, white, Wifi 6 Sky Max Hub and not necessarily the older, black, Wifi 5 Sky Hub.

If you "just" buy Sky Superfast broadband you may get the black or white version of the hub, if you add the Sky Wifi Max service, you will definitely get the white version.

Thanks again.  I am planning just the 61MB Superfast, then hopefully they will supply the black hub.

AFAIK, all new subscribers are sent the problematic white SR213 with no option to choose. That's what I got when I signed up in November but subsequently bought an SR203 from Ebay.

With a Part Fibre connection, there is no option to choose, but not everyone is receiving the white hub currently, unless you add the Sky Wifi Max service.

This is similar to when it was first launched. It remains the default hub for a Full Fibre connection.

Re: Changing to Sky Superfast and Talk

Talking to Sky yjis morning I now understand that you cannot have Superfast broadband without have pay as you go calls which pushes their charge up £4.  I saw nothing in on their website that stated this.
