Changing my contract without my permission
I recently changed my broadband to fibre optic ,an engineer fitted it,today 23/12 I recieved a letter from sky saying I have now sports, cinema etc. and a charge of price. At no time did I ask for these ,at no time did I agree got these packages.at no time did engineer tell me that I would be paying for these packages, at no time was I informed by sky either my messsge, email or letters that I would be put into these packages. When asked by sky to change to fibre optic I said only change if no cost and no increase. This was an underhanded way for sky to try getting me to pay for sports/cinema. And I'm sure changing my contract that way is illegal , I will therefore be seeking legal advice about this matter. Putting extra packages and costs to a customer who NEVER asked I'm sure is illegal. And I am now considering leaving sky altogether .

Re: Changing my contract without my permission
Engineers sometimes offer trial periods of Cinema or Sport limited to 1 or maybe 2 months after which charges apply unless you cancel it by contacting Sky giving the required 31 days notice.
You're correct. Those items shouldn't be added without your agreement.
See this link regarding submitting a complaint
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/how-to-make-a-complaint
Sky then have to to 8 weeks to resolve it or issue a deadlock letter before it can be taken further.

Re: Changing my contract without my permission
Here's full reply from sky admitting I should not of had my plan changed.as you can read they confirm that without my agreement my plan should NOT of been changed , if I hadnt
looked at my future bill , I would of been charged for additions I had not requested, does anyone know if I can seek any legal action over this, and I wonder how many others they have done this too .
Thank you for getting in touch and sharing your concerns.
I’m very sorry to hear about your recent experience, and I completely understand how frustrating it must be to see TV packages and charges added to your account without your agreement,
especially after you were assured there would be no extra costs when switching to fibre optic broadband.
To clarify, upgrading to Full Fibre broadband should not result in any additional TV packages or charges being added to your account.
This is not standard practice, and you should only ever be charged for services you have agreed to.
I can confirm that Sky Sports and Sky Cinema were added to your account on 16/12/2026 with a 2-month free period.
However, these should not have been added without your explicit consent.
You can remove these packs at any time during the free period to ensure you are not charged.

See if you can remove them via here:
https://www.sky.com/mysky/tv/tv-packs
if not there are a few ways to contact Sky about this including using a messaging service as you can see via the Contact Us button under Downgrade here:

If someone has helped you then please click on the LIKES button in their post.
If you need help please provide as much information as you can

Re: Sky tried to charge for packages I never asked for
I see you've already removed them.
I have added your post to the one you made yesterday. Illegal ~ I doubt it. A mistake ~ possibly.

Re: Changing my contract without my permission
I removed but I shouldn't of had to,trying to find a direct no instead of a.i was difficult. Changing broadband had nothing to do with tv ,how many others has it happened to and they not noticed. I have decided to seek legal advice ( appointment 5th jan) and I will be leaving sky.

@Telephone12
To cancel Sky Broadband and Sky Talk the below link explains how to switch to an alternative provider or the various methods on cancelling completely.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-broadband
If you try to cancel whilst still in a minimum term deal you might have to pay an early termination charge (Sky will notify you if you do and how much they’ll charge).
NOTE: One Touch Switching only applies to broadband and Talk and NOT a TV subscription.
Return packaging for any equipment Sky expect back will be sent out to you near the end of the 14 day notice period to the address the account was registered at. Remember to keep any proof of posting indefinitely.
🔹
To fully cancel your TV subscription, if your minimum term has ended you’ll need to give Sky the required 31 days notice. Note that the latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. (If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term).
See the below link
https://www.sky.com/help/your-account/my-account-and-subscription/cancelling/cancel-my-subscription/...
Select ‘No, I still need help’ at the bottom of the link which will lead to contact methods.
(Make sure the flag in the bottom right corner is the correct one ie; UK or ROI).
UK customer ~ It may include a phone number, an email link and also a Message Us option (which is normally available between 9am and 7.30pm).
ROI customer ~ there’s a text option (Monday-Friday 9am to 4:30pm) otherwise it’s only by calling Sky Ireland or writing in.
If you successfully cancel you should receive an acknowledgment email from Sky.
If you are cancelling Sky Q, return packaging will be sent out near the end of your notice period for any loaned equipment Sky are expecting back. It’s important that you obtain proof of posting and keep it safe and indefinitely.

Of course that's an option, but it's always worth pondering who can afford more lawyers.

Re: Changing my contract without my permission
I understand that if I was having tv work that they may offer new packages , but I should of been told and I was pestered to change my broadband to fibre optic , nothing else.not told.and there was so much messing around to remove the packages they added without my permission, even then I noticed they changed it to a NEW contract to 2030 when my contract was due in 2026 , and I was considering leaving sky . Just waiting to see if they try charging me for leaving then.find that sky the way they deal with customers is very underhand, it's bad enough trying to deal with them when your 60+ .

Did you mean to type 2030? As far as I know Sky don't do discounted deals for longer than two years.

Re: Changing my contract without my permission
I spoke to lawyers via phone call, told them everything, sent original messages I recieved from sky etc plus response from sky over matter, the lawyers then gave me a date to see them (jan5) , so I assume they think I have some recourse. Will see what happens then, but I'm not letting this go.
