Certain web addresses fail to load
I work remotely and have need to access (other than work related web addresses) API endpoints which are run from AWS lambda functions. As of yesterday, certain addresses are unreachable - not 40x response errors, just unreachable, timing out. When I'm connected via a VPN, the addresses work (not necessarily from another country, a UK based connection is fine). Failing web addresses include the CMS's my employer uses which I've had no issue using for the past 4 years.
I've gone the ChatGPT route to help fix and none of the suggestions have, but it has given me a diagnosis of:
Sky’s MTU/routing change breaking fragmented TLS ClientHello packets
I have to redact web and IP addresses but curl logs are provided below, both with and without a VPN connection active to an example API endpoint.
Without VPN connection active
* Host <HOSTNAME>:443 was resolved.
* IPv6: (none)
* IPv4: <IP-1>, <IP-2>, <IP-3>
* Trying <IP-1>:443...
* Connected to <HOSTNAME> (<IP-1>) port 443
* ALPN: curl offers h2,http/1.1
* (304) (OUT), TLS handshake, Client hello (1):
* CAfile: /etc/ssl/cert.pem
* CApath: none
<hangs here indefinitely>

My hardware:
- Lowering MTU on connection to 1480 and rebooting router
- Lowering MTU on connection to 1472 and rebooting router
- Disabling IPV6
- Setting a DNS host other than the router on the local computer
Any help or guidance on this would be appreciated.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
I seem to be having the same issue with a region-specific routing issue on Sky Broadband that affects connectivity to AWS Global Accelerator endpoints for the ap-southeast-2 region (Sydney).
ap-southeast-2.console.aws.amazon.com
Accessing the AWS Management Console for the ap-southeast-2 region results in timeouts (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT).
The failure only occurs on Sky Broadband.
The same endpoint works immediately when:
connected via mobile hotspot
connected via VPN
connected via another ISP
I've called Sky support on the phone but been dropped. Still trying to follow up with them

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
Interesting. Although I can't be sure about the web addresses, the API endpoints failing for me are in the ap-southeast-2 region. If you manage to get any updates over the phone, I'd appreciate you sharing.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
I've raised the same issue here: https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Unable-to-access-domains-in-aws-au-region-ap-southeast-2/td-p...
It seems anything hosted in that AWS region times out if accessing via Sky.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
Another thread was raised which is linked above and the advice was to wait, as the customer helpline is likely not technically able to fix the issue. They suggested if there's anyone paying for the services, then raising it with AWS might help get it moving. I'm tempted to just sign up to AWS to report it to them because I don't have any of the necessary credentials with them as it is.
If you have access to a VPN then connecting as any other UK location works but clearly that's not ideal or even possible in all cases.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
Thanks @d_h1ck5y
I've also just got off a call to Sky and managed to get the Customer Service to escalate the issue this time.
Hopefully will be resolved soon, it's making work a real pain for me.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
Same problem here, staring occuring Thursday 4th Dec as far as I can tell. All ap-southeast-2 services impacted (elb, management console). Have been on 3 hour call with AWS today, no resolution yet.
The problem is not exclusive to Sky Broadband, if you are on an ISP without the problem, and route your connection through Zscaler and you go out certain data centres (e.g. Manchester) you can't reach ap-southeast-2 either.

Re: Certain web addresses fail to load
Seems to have been resolved this end too. I haven't checked everything that was previously failing but the ones I use more frequently are now loading as expected.
