Cameras no longer work

Had an issue with Sky max wifi yesterday - wifi dropping out. Spent an hour talking to engineer -  all cables out of router / wait 15 minutes etc. eventually seemed to help. Today my laptop signal seems poor again (been working fine for 1 year) and I can no longer connect my security cameras to the WiFi. Again  - not an issue before. Any ideas?

@Daveyslocker  Did the engineer get you to reset the router at any point during the call to tech support?

@Daveyslocker You may find that since sky had you do a Factory reset, you may need to go power off your devices, leave them a couple minutes and then power them back up, hopefully they all re-connect!

Re: Cameras no longer work

They've all been powered off multiple times - makes no difference - they won't connect. They've all been unplugged and attempts made to reconnect right beneath the router - nothing connects.

Re: Cameras no longer work

@Daveyslocker Do you have anything connected via wireless wi-fi to the Sky Max hub just so we know that at least it is working! Your Ethernet connections are they all fine!

@Daveyslocker  Do these cameras connect via the 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency on the router?

Re: Cameras no longer work

i think the cameras are all looking for 2.4ghz - but i guess the router is 5ghz - just had this discussion with a sky engineer - the cameras have been connecting to the router happily for a year, but now will not !

Not sure whether i could change tht frequency to see if that helps

@Daveyslocker

The SSID broadcasts both 2.4ghz & 5ghz at the same time, however your right sometimes cameras or other smart devices cannot tell the distinction. You can disable/rename the 5ghz band, the process of this depends on which Sky hub you have so if you let us know which one you have I can find some instructions.

I am having similar issues with my Xbox. It won't even find the router. Never an issue before and now isn't working

Re: Cameras no longer work

@Daveyslocker Since you have got the hub back to fresh out off the box state, if you can and your app is allowing to the hub, goto the wpa wireless settings, and be sure to set it to wpa2-psk mode, give the cameras a chance to see if they can find the hub. Save and power reset just so you know that the hub is at least applying the settings.

Re: Cameras no longer work

  • I have found that reducing the security to WPA2 has enabled me to connect some cameras. Not sure how wise this is or whether I can increase it once they're connected? But it's worked for now

Re: Cameras no longer work

@Daveyslocker The WPA2-psk is the rock standard of wireless encryption where the newer wpa3-t, and the wpa3 were the new and apple introduced, it's all upto you but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the older standard, you can go check it out for yourself, but you should check what all your devices support, that is the baby off them all!

Not sure how this sky app works but does it show you what the cameras connect as, frequency wise would be surprised if they are not all 2.4Ghz devices as they do need distance control and not so much speed!
