Broadband upgrade scam phonecall?

Just had a phonecall from a caller claiming to be from Sky saying that as the fibre network in my area has been upgraded then my broadband can be upgraded to a faster service at no extra cost. He said my router would need to be upgraded to a 4.2.

I confirmed my name and address. He asked for my password but I said I couldn't remember it. He then started asking me questions about whether there were any alarm cords fitted in my flat (there are and I confirmed that there were). Then he said "I need to speak to my manager" and the the call was put on hold. I took the opportunity to check the phone number he was calling from and the response was "This number, primarily associated with a broadband scam activity, is a non-geographic number owned by Nexbridge Communications Limited".

I hung up and blocked the number. But they have my name and address and I'm curious why they were interested in the alarm cords.

@BBDodge

Asking about a care alarm is normal process when processing an upgrade for someone to fibre. This is because traditional alarms connect via the landline to make calls but with full fibre this isnt possible.
