Broadband speed erratic

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Upgraded about a month ago to full fibre 500. Previously on full fibre 300 and always had speeds just over 300mbs, no issues. Since upgrading the speed has been erratic and on two occasions dropped below the minimum guaranteed speed, although not consecutively, but often only with the 400mbs range. The speed check for yesterday was 379mbps and shows the speed to the house as poor.

Just had an interesting live chat with a broadband specialist, who has advised my router is not the latest one, or designed to deliver the 500 full fibre to get the best speed  and I should consider the extra max package at £8 a month.

when I questioned this as the router isn't capable, that Sky should replace it free of charge, this was not the case as it's not faulty.

Should I have got a newer router when I upgraded if the one I have isn't capable ? Or is is just a case of trying to upsell ?

The hub is Sky 4.2 model.
