Broadband speed at 40 Mbps, should be 159 Mbps.

In the last 2 days I've notcied my broadband download speed has gone down to 40 Mbps. I usually get around 140-159 Mbps. I've done the service checker on the sky website and it says everything is good and i've also restarted my router and I'm still getting 40 Mbps.

Please post your router stats along with a screenshot of a speedtest

Your stats are showing high traffic on the WAN interface. Are you sure there is nothing on your network/PC that is using the bandwidth as this would explain why your speed test is lower than expected? Common culprits can be downloads, updates, backups etc.

Also are you connected via ethernet or WiFi when running the test?

Hi James, yes I am sure there's definitely nothing else using the bandwidth at the moment. No Windows Updates or game updates or anything else. I'm connected via ethernet cable.

The only things connected via Wi-FI are a few smartphones and my TV, none of which are doing any big downloads.

I've had roadworks in my street for the last 2 weeks but that was only for the electric works (that's what they told us) and I don't think that would have affected my connection. At least I hope It hasn't anyway.

My download speed is back to normal now, still not sure what caused it though.
