Broadband is not working
Since having fibre installed last Friday 8th November 2024 my tv and laptop is constantly losing connection and having to reboot all the time, I have never experienced such awful connection! I have had sky broadband for 5 years and never had an issue, you convinced me to go to fibre as it would be quicker and more reliable speeds when it's an absolute shambles. I am constantly losing connection or not connecting at all. I want fibre removed and the old line put back in. I am not happy with this service at all.

Re: Broadband is not working
Hi, i don't have sky fibre experience but have virgin fibre experience. The problems broke into two categories, rendering any notion of extraordinary data rates null and void: the virgin hub was fragile, prone to burnout and the internal wifi signal effectively stops with any provider's hub, in our front room where the hub is (power of signal directly dictates speed, and engineers can measure speed yet do not LOAD the wifi as a consumer does, which makes the speed seem high, yet you use a device and it cuts the power/speed of wifi in half); secondly the initial rollout of fibre is plagued with 'balancing' problems for months.
The balancing of fibre loads means if one single new customer in your area joins the network, some little impedance matching device fitted to your fibre broadband connection, is now 'wrong'! Or, if they leave it. I lost patience.
The hubs i have resigned myself to augmenting with £300 of mains Tx and Rx boxes by TP-link. These are not boosters, but actual extenders, in that they take a cable from the hub, into a little Tx or transmitter box, this drives the signal into the mains cabling, and the matching Rx receiver box, grabs that anywhere u plugged the Rx in on your mains. It's like wiring ethernet around your house, but emerging as a wifi signal.
every single room in our house has such a setup! I learned to disregard any engineer's tests and advice long ago. We got told we didn't need extra units to boost the signal in other rooms and that 2 or 3 mb/s was good! Neither are true. As soon as you try to actually do something, the weaker wifi power gets cut in half, so 5mbits would be sn absolute minimum.
A BT engineer also cinnected our broadband to an old alarm cable, saving him install time, when we were with BT directly. This is unshielded cable, in short it's unworkable in practice and prone to stalling and stuttering your broadband...proper cables are stamped 'cat 6' etc, no engineer should have done this.
so, Sky fibre is no worse than any other, ie disappointing and bafflingly ineffectual. Virgin promised 300mbits haha. We got 35 and that was a metre from their terrible hub. Your bottleneck is not the speed coming into your home. You want to get 'ookla' app and test for free on your mobilr phone what it says your wifi speed is. U want 70mbs in the wifi hub room, then use mains extenders or a mesh system to get 35 mbs in each other room.
And i have to reboot some extenders every three days, heck i fitted a mains timer to our garden one, so it does it daily at 4am si i don't have to. I have 30 years experience with ethernet and IT including with emergency services.
That's my 'brain dump' on tge matter i hope it assists. Take care.

Re: Broadband is not working
I am experiencing exactly the same!. My property's alarm is connected to the WiFi and every time the internet drops out the house alarm goes off as it deems that it has been tampered with!! It's currently 3:49am and it's happened again!!!! Called sky they said everything looks fine and they won't send an engineer as from there point of view it's good speed. Old internet never an issue!!!! Please do message on how you fix yours if you do!?
