Can you please help? I live in a big city and I'm paying £18.99 a month for a Sky Talk line rental as well as for Broadband unlimted. Do I need this line rental (£227.88) per year. Do I really need this for Broadband? Confused, feels like expensive unneccessary old tech.

Line rental showing as a seperate entity is a thing of the past.
What broadband product are you on?
Call sky to see if you can get your broadband updated to a new brand name so you don't need to pay line rental

Note that for fixed broadband a data bearer (either copper cable or optical fibre) is required and this is 'rented' by a wholesaler to the ISP who then passes the cost to the subscriber. As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, on current broadband products the pricing is no longer separated, but a cost is still there.
