Broadband Super Slow!

Hello! 

Been trying to get in contact with Sky but having no luck. My broadband is supposed to be 57mb Download but it's currently sitting between 3-7mb.

 

Tried to phone Sky but it was automated and basically sent me to the site which said my internet was "good"

 

Very annoying when your paying for a service and not getting it.

 

Any advice appreciated!

Im trying to get the stats but the admin n password required won't let me in. Is that just my sky registered email address for the admin?

What router do you have?

 

The following are the details for sky q router er115 and sky broadband router sr203

 

Username       admin

Password        sky or wifi password on the back of the router

Very hard to pinpoint any fault there.  Everythings been solid for a tad under 300 hours

 

What devices are you getting slow speeds on

My phone & computer are both going super slow. Even when I do a speed test it's barely making it over 4mb.

 

No idea what's causing it.

Could you access the router stats again except this time wait for 10 seconds until the tx and rx figures show in the top right side of the table

So it turns out, because I was downloading a game to my computer. It slows the whole internet down. 

N
ow that the game (60gb) -- has downloaded, the internet is back up to 50+ mb....

 

Isnt the broadband speed supposed to be 50+mb so that when downloading stuff it downloads at that speed, rather than going to 10% of the speed when downloading!?

I wish that were the case. Downloading on 1 device reduces the speed to all other devices by the same amount

Is that the same across the board with all service providers? 

That's the first I've heard of that. I'm just unfortunate as well that I'm in an area where super fast fibre isn't available yet too.

 

If I could go higher speeds I definitely would.

It is the same with other isps. With the way copper broadband works the maximum speed is 80Mbps reduced by a factor of the distance from the nearest cabinet.  Therefore in you case where you are close ish to the cabinet it would be impossible to maintain 60Mbps on all devices when 1 is downloading at over 50Mbps

I notice you are only connected by wireless if you only have a wireless device or are only testing with a 2.4Ghz wireless band device then it may be related to that and you'll need to test with a device that is wired or 5Ghz wireless to confirm an issue. Otherwise, the router stats as @cookiemonsteruk suggests don't show an obvious issue.
