Broadband Speed

Hi guys

Ever since I had fibre optic installed Ive had issues with speed, my last package was 500mb/s the engineer installed the ONT box etc I only ever seem to get under 100mb/s. I did notice the ethernet lead he installed from the ONT to routher box was a 5.5 cat. Surely this limits it to 100 right? I even changed my main ethernet lead to my PC from port one to port 4 to see if that was the issue then I read online the ONT port should always be in port 4, i made sure it was and my pc lead is in port 1 and still get under 100M/**bleep** my internet was upgraded to 900 the other day and still I get under 100. SOMETIMES when i run checks it can be 400/500 but for a short time.

I did notice whenever i restart the internet and run a speed test its all ways 900 for 5 mins then drops under 100 alway the time.

Any ideas? thanks pete

Re: Broadband Speed

@PeterUK If you are unsure of the cable from the ONT - Router then change it to a higher spec. And have copied a link for you to check, and are you sure its not Cat5.e

Re: Broadband Speed

@PeterUK Both are capable of Gb speeds as long as all 8 connections on pins used, are you using the original sky cable? Did you see any issues on your previous 500Mb/s speed before your upgrade.

You may have to post your router stat's so we can see if any issues, but if cable you may wish to change first, good quality cat6 is more than enough. Link if needed below.

@PeterUK

A Cat5e cable of under 100 metres length is easily capable of higher speed than the gigabit ethernet chipsets in the devices at either end of it.
