Re: Booster box

I have a similar situation...my PC is upstairs my booster is in living room it doesn't connect broadband to my PC which was the reason I asked for a booster thinking it would when tuned into modem etc.

How do I get the broadband signal to my PC upstairs please?

I thought I could plug it in to the landing socket, would this work.

It is too far to run a cable from living room to PC upstairs, please advise, thank you.

@MomoUK

A booster is not designed to be a secondary router nor is it guranteed to provide a stable signal.

If you need to connect your PC then you have the following few options

- Run an ethernet cable from the router to the PC

- Run an ethernet cable from the booster to the PC

- Use Powerline/homeplug adapters

- Get a WiFi card for your PC

Re: Booster box

Thank you James, when I rang Sky to say I have no signal upstairs for my PC they said they would send me a Booster so I was under the impression that would sort out my broadband signal upstairs, I have it set up its beside TV but what good is it if I still have no broadband upstairs.

So it's not possible to unplug it and take it upstairs and plug it in there, it does say it holds the setting if moved, I thought this would be possible, but now I think not....oh I'm stray in the head over this, I've been trying to sort this out ages now, and then give up fir another while.

If....I plugged in an erthernet lead to booster, have that plugged into electric socket on landing or better still in P C room and have the other end in PC would that work????? HELP!!!! my sanity is threatened.

Hi @MomoUK

I am a little confused on your situation to be honest.

Is your PC WiFi capable? E.g. Can it see WiFi networks as I am not sure whether your issue is that the PC isnt in range of your router or it simply cant connect to WiFi networks because it does not have a WiFi card.

As for the booster. Once you sync it via WPS or ethernet you can place it anywhere in your home providing its within a semi decent range of your main hub. Ideally you should place the booster right in the middle of your router & PC.

Re: Booster box

Ah James I think I must be effecting your sanity now, forgive please.

It's the broadband signal isn't strong enough to reach the PC upstairs, the modem used to be upstairs before we changed to sky, they installed it then downstairs beside tv thats when I started having problems with broadband signal not reaching upstairs.

I hope that's maybe explained it a bit better I hope.

I am not so tech savvy  I really can't sort it out at all, but I do appreciate your input and help James honestly.

Okay so have you been give a Sky booster by Sky or do you just have your single router?

Re: Booster box

I've just had an Ethernet cable ran from downstairs from my main Sky Router, outside, up the wall and in to the home office, and an Ethernet port added in the wall.  If I run an ethernet cable from my switch to the back of a Broadband Booster from Sky, will that then provide me with a full strength Wi-Fi signal?

Yes it should use the ethernet backhaul and give you a decent WiFi signal
