Beware phone scam

Had a call earlier supposedly from sky saying my broadband was slow. They tried to get me to go onto a website to change the phone line settings. I said it’s a scam and put the phone down. However I ran a test on sky app and it said I had a problem. I’ve called them and their records show no call from them to me earlier. So someone seems able to see issues for individual sky users and also have our landline number. We've recently gone to fibre with new number and no one apart from sky has it. In reality it seems to be a glitch in skys software but I do wonder if they’re being hacked. They couldn’t understand why the spurious reading was popping up and are going to look into it. Anyway long way to say watch out for any scam calls. She did sound convincing.

@ie  Sky nor any other ISP are being "hacked" it is well known scam that these people use and say they are from your ISP, they won't know your phone number nor have access to your account or broadband line.

No ISP would ever call you in this way.

@ie and others

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

Not at all: it's pure coincidence.  Cold-call enough people (using randomly generated numbers) and a significant percentage will be having a broadband 'problem'.
