Automatic TV connection

Can anyone help with why my WiFi isn't automatically connecting to my smart TV? It's never done this before and I've checked the settings. If I try to automatically connect it wirelessly it won't connect, it find the correct WiFi box but once typing in the password it says it's unable to connect, every time I turn the TV on I have to connect using the WPS button, it's the only way it works? (It's not in a area where I can wire it in directly to the TV, wireless is the only option)
