I intend to purchase a new Apple I Mac . I have the choice to add Gigabit Ethernet to the pc to enhance data handling. We access WiFi through a full fibre line into the house . I have read that a CAT 5 cable from the pc to the router will be necessary for a Gigabit Ethernet but how can I establish if my Sky router is able to handle the Gigabit Ethernet . Any help or advice will be appreciated. Steve .

Slight correction: the 2013 Sky Hub (still technically in support) has 100Mbs ethernet to go with its 802.11n WiFi. Hopefully Sky will weed out the last of those over the next year as they really shouldn't remain in use.

The other models (2016 Q Hub, 2019 Broadband Hub and 2023 Max Hub) are gigabit: all Q Hubs are also due for swap-out.
