Anyone else suffer with poor routing/packet loss with Sky?

I always suffer with desync/packet loss in several games, to the fact that it feels like I am a second behind on the server. I work in IT and have a third party router that is set up perfectly, same as my PC.

It's odd, because I will have a period of a few days where it's absolutely fine, and then all of a sudden it will go terrible for weeks on end making online gaming a miserable experience. It's as if the routing is changing and the hops are getting longer, losing packets in the process.

I tried to speak to Sky Tech team on the phone but they didn't even know what packet loss is. They just think it's the game (hint: it's not)

@MrGamer12

Could be a line issue then, since you are not using the Sky hub could you provide the line stats from your modem?

Thanks @jamesn123 . It's a TP Link, these are the stats. I notice that the Current Upload Rate is higher than the Max Rate, I spoke to a TP Link advisor and they suggested that it's not that accurate (Changing QoS/Bandwidth doesn't seem to do anything to it either). But I am also getting Packet Loss Error too at the bottom;

@MrGamer12

Your line doesnt look right at all.

- Your upload speed is almost at the maximum possible for FTTC (20mbps) but your download speed is only at just above half the max rate (80mbps). These figures should scale normally together

- Your line attenuation suggests the line is quite short so you should be seeing much more than 45mbps

- You have errors on both the upstream & downstream

What is your minimum guaranteed speed that Sky quoted you?

@jamesn123

Thanks

Thanks. However if I do a speed test, it comes back as 41mbps download and 14mbps upload - so it's really hard to gauge if the TP Link is wrong, but I wouldn't know why. But the line does feel faulty.

Off the top of my head I think download speeds are meant to be around 60mbps. It's Broadband Super fast.

@MrGamer12

Yes thats my point. If your only getting 41mbps down you should only be getting about 10-11mbps up.

Sky would have given you two figures, a 'Gurantee' & a 'Normally avaliable'. You need to find your guarantee figure as if your speed is below that it'll make it a lot easier to get them engaged.

@MrGamer12

Usually in the My Sky app/your account when you run the line test although it may fail because you are not using the Sky hub. It'll also be in your welcome email from Sky when you signed up.

@MrGamer12 it will be in the orginal info you got sent when you bought the connection which you can access in the My Sky app. It is also available through the connection test in the same app but that only works with the Sky hub attached but to report a line fault Sky will require the hub to be used as their diagnostics need it.
