Alternative to Sky Router

I have changed from BT Fibre to Sky Fibre900 today and I'm disappointed in the Sky Hub Max as it won't allow me to turn off DHCP - I have a large network and some of my devices need fixed internal IPs. I'm currently using a Draytek Vigor Router with Ubiquiti for WiFi mesh.

As the Draytek router is old, the broadband speed is not up to the 900mb so I want to replace the Sky Router with something else that allows for more control over my network.

Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Sky Max Hub Router and will work with Sky broadband please.

@Ripley500 Asus routers are a popular choice as they support Sky's preferred DHCPv4 Option 61 authentication.

Re: Alternative to Sky Router

Thanks - do you suggest any particular model or do all Asus routers work?

@Ripley500 Does the Ubiquti mesh have routing wan mode, and do you need the sky for a landline connection!

Re: Alternative to Sky Router

No need for a landline connection. The ubiquiti mesh manages the whole house for wifi on the LAN not WAN though

Re: Alternative to Sky Router

@Ripley500 So are you saying that the Draytek is that old that it does not have a Gigabit Network port's lan/wan and cannot handle the network connections and DHCP for everything, or are you still trying to Wi-Fi the Draytek at the same time also!

Re: Alternative to Sky Router

The Draytek only supports speeds up to 350Mb - confirmed by an Openreach engineer in the past.

I've solved the issue by buying a ASUS RT-AXE7800 router. I was surprised that this connected to Sky automatically without me needing to change any settings and give the full 900Mb. This router is far better than the Sky Max  when you have a larger or more complex network as its extremely configurable. The Sky hub is fine for simple/basic networks where people don't need to adjust the settings (as there are hardly any config settings available with the Sky hub).

Thanks all for feedback.

@Ripley500 You don't need to tell me, had Asus routers on for years with all different connections and backhauls!
