Alternative to SR203, with VOIP

Hello,

I have recently switched from Virgin Media to Sky Broadband Superfast, and had assumed that it would simply be a matter of putting the Sky Hub into modem mode and attach my ASUS router as I has with Virgin.

However, the SR203 that Sky have provided doesn't have such a mode.  Instead there appear to be many discussions about how to get the Sky Hub working with other routers.

So, I was wondering if it would be possible simply to replace the SR302 with something else.  I have seen numerous discussions about this in various forums, with various suggested alternatives.  But, none of these alternatives include a jack to plug in my phone, as my Sky landline appears to be be VOIP via the SR203.

I have searched online for DSL modems that support VOIP, but none of them seem to be available.

Therefore, my question is, how can I replace the SR203 with something that gives me the functionality I would expect, but also handling the VOIP?

@CarTBar  Short answer there is no 3rd party router out there that will give you what you want.

None of the Sky hubs have a modem mode, the VOIP service sky provide have not had any details published regarding the technical paramaters so 3rd party routers can't be used for the voice element.

The only solution is to use a non-proprietary third-party VoIP service with Sky broadband and dispense with Sky Talk VoIP. Fortunately, these non-proprietary VoIP solutions are relatively cheap and call costs are more affordable than Sky Talk.

We're in a similar boat.  The route we took was to attach our Asus router  to the Sky router, and use it as the main access point for everything else, still using the VOIP of the Sky router.

You will see lots of suggestions to use AP mode for the Asus router, but I would not do that as you would lose a lot of the functionality.

Be sure to read the whole thread as later on the writer decides to undo a few of the settings (resetting ALG on the Sky router)

We did something similar (used different IP ranges etc) and it is working great.  We also changed our Sky Puck for our Asus network so we could turn the Sky router WiFi off

@CarTBar the suggestion of using a Double NAT setup is a good one although some apps don't  like such set--ups they work for most people. .
