Access Points Set Up

Hello,

I am having cat 6 cable run around my house. This will be run from data points in rooms around the house, into a network switch and into the sky router. I will also be having access points put around the house which are wired into the switch. Please can someone recommend which switches and APs I can successfully connect to the Max hub and get a seamless network throughout!

Any help would be great.

@adamfinch83 As you are going with Wired AP's as the nodes and using the Sky Max router as the network base, if you are not doing all off this by yourself then ask installers for what works best, As the max is a wifi 6 hub, best to stay at least to the same spec with you AP's.

Thanks for the reply.

im asking on here as the installers aren't sure on what is best, they're electricians rather than network guys!

So you recommend WiFi 6 APs. Any specific brand? Will all this work seamlessly with sky max? Is there anything I need to do?

thanks again

If possible I would go for PEO switches and POE Access points, reason 1 cable to each AP, the POE switch will power then without the need for seperate power supplies.

Any decent AP & switch will work with Sky broadband hubs, the real question is ar you going to be reliant on the Sky Hub wifi or your own AP's wifi network?

Re: Access Points Set Up

Whats the best route to go?

If the Aps are in place and working. Do i need the Sky max router to still have its own wifi? Or will the APs create its own new wifi to switch all devices over to?

Thanks

Unmanaged switches though surely?

@adamfinch83

Unmanaged PoE switches with dedicated APs of the spec you want, probably WiFi 6 or 6e.
Also personally, if i were going to this much trouble to wire the house up, I would get rid of the Sky hub and use my own router for controlling everything.

@adamfinch83

Depends if you want one unified brand & controller or not. The obvious one would be unifi controller & APs but can be a bit more difficult to setup.

Personally I like Asus routers, they have never been an issue for me and you can put custom firmware on them for other features.

Draytek is the other brand that seems to be fairly popular with Sky.
