ASUS AXE 7800
So im looking to purchase one of these and replace my sky router. Apparently this one is pretty simple for sky users. But would I need to do anything? (Bear in my im not router savvy at all) I see comments about it can just plug the ASUS router via ethernet into the open reach socket. Or it will even connect automatically to the sky service. Ideally I dont want my sky router on at the same time, I want to put that away.
Thanks

Re: ASUS AXE 7800
@Andy2230 assume you are aware you will lose the voice line if you remove the Sky hub? If you are it is not complicated to connect an Asus router to a Sky full fibre connection but it isn't plug and play you will need to configure the router yourself.
The exact settings required depends in whether you have an Openreach,, a City Fibre connection or you are in Ireland. Assuming you are in the UK try the DHCPv6 PD method which works on 80% of Openreach and 100% of City Fibre connections. The fall back for the remaining Openreach connections is DHCPv4 Option61 with a standard log in phrase of anything@skydsl|anything as explained here
You mention an "Openreach socket" which implies a partial fibre service as with full fibre uses an ONT unit with lights. If you only have a partial fibre service via a phone socket you need a combined modem router.

Re: ASUS AXE 7800
Sorry if I'm pointing out obvious stuff here, but you mean I wont be able to use my landline phone if i unplug the sky router? As i currently have the talk package with sky, and im on sky full fibre also. In england (Manchester area) I have the openreach connection that the sky installation put in with the LAN connection and optical and thats connected to my sky router VIA ethernet

Re: ASUS AXE 7800
@Andy2230 Yes that is correct, no sky hub, no sky supplied landline phone and talk package!
