sky broadband wifi 2.4g doesn't work on smart devices
Hi,
I've used sky broadband for about six months. Previously it works with smart devices such as Chromecast, Robot vacuum that only support 2.4G wifi. However, I cannot connect smart devices to my wifi via 2.4G wifi any more. My mobile and laptop works with the 2.4G wifi.
I tried to reset the boradband hub and different wifi settings like channels but nothing works. Does anyone have suggestions to fix the issue? Can I ask sky to send a new hub?
Thanks!

When resetting the router, hold the reset button on the back of the hub for 20 seconds minimum, then try again.

Re: sky broadband wifi 2.4g doesn't work on smart devices
If the wifi bands are synchronised and showing as 1 ssid it might be that the devices are confused. Have you tried seperating the wifi bands as below :-
- Log onto router and go to wifi
- Go to 5ghz band and untick synchronise 2.4ghz and 5ghz
- Go to 5ghz ssid and add -5g at the end
- Save
- Go to individual devices and assign wifi band accordingly

Re: sky broadband wifi 2.4g doesn't work on smart devices
Hi @cookiemonsteruk , thanks for your advice, I tried to separate 2.4G and 5G with different ssid names. It doesnt work either. It's quite strange to me that my phone can connect both 2.4G or 5G wifi without problem but not these smart devices : ( aren't so smart it seems

Re: sky broadband wifi 2.4g doesn't work on smart devices
If setting up using a mobile phone the smart devices tend to assign themselves using the same ssid as thd device used to set it up ie make sure the mobile itself is on 2.4

Re: sky broadband wifi 2.4g doesn't work on smart devices
@seansky2021 any router has limitations.
The first is the limit on IP addresses the hub can talk to which is 254.
However practically the limit is far lower due to processing power, my own Sr203 hub copes with 25 devices without any impact on speed. There was an issue now solved of delays in assigning IP addresses when you got above 30 devices. Sky support like to blame the number of devices as it gets customers off the phone.
In practical terms the processor probably will run out of puff around the 50 mark assuming all of the devices behave themselves as a faulty device can cause havoc with far fewer devices. A lot depends on how many devices are active and the traffic they generate. IOT kit bought online can have. pretty primative wifi chips so there is no hard and fast number..
Assigning devices to the 2 separate bands can help keeping the slow and old stuff on the 2.4GHz band leaving the 5GHz band for kit thst needs speed semms to work for many users.
Expecting a free isp supplied router to replicate a router costing several hundred quid is unrealistic though..
