Hi, I am having issues with low sound especially on downloaded or recorded programmes/films but also when watching Sky normally. I know it is not my TV as when we have the PS4 on the sound is very loud so it has to be something to do with the Sky+ HD box.
On some films we have to have it turned up to max volume and still it is not that loud.
On the PS4 we only have to have the TV on 8-10 volume but using Sky normally it is on 50 volume and when watching downloaded films it is on 90 volume.

@Mark39
It's been like this for a while. I just think it must be the box because the sound through the PS4 is fine

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI doubt your Sky box is faulty. I suspect it's just the normal lower volume level that Sky boxes produce. You could try obtaining a replacement box, but I think it will be no different.
Some TVs allow you to alter the sound level on different HDMI inputs which would allow you to balance the Sky input with the PS4. It might be worth checking your TV settings menu to see if yours does.

We are talking a lot of difference with the sound though. Like i said it's on 9-10 on PS4 but over 90 in sky. That's nearly max volume.

my sky+hd box has low sound i know its not my tv it's new but before sky brought out the hd box and was standard definition the menu system used to have a volume bar and ya could turn it up so ya could hear proper sound level but on the sky+hd box it doesn't have the volume bar and that's why i find sky channels to be low sound bring back the sky standard definition box it was miles better sound quality

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Michael4775 doesn't sound like a sound quality issue, but rather sound volume.
Sky Q boxes have a higher level of audio output which is comparable with other set top boxes etc. Whether or not Sky will ever increase the audio output from Sky+HD boxes I don't know, but with Sky Q now being the marketed product I think it's unlikely.

Looks like you're stuck with it then until your landlord upgrades your communal system. You could try ebay etc for a used Sky+ box, if that's whay you want?

yep the landlord won't update the building sky dish. so will have to try and find a sky+ box a thought hd side was supposed to be better sound and picture quality

what about if i connect coaxial cables from tv to hd box n to ariel socket n manually tune sky on a tv channel would that improve the sound volume

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI doubt it, but it's cheap so might be worth a try. Some TVs allow you to boost the volume level on their HDMI inputs so you equalise them or match them with the TV's built in Freeview tuner.

I read somewhere that you can change the sound settings from Dolby to normal you can improve the sound. I have sound issues myself. I've just been watching the Oprah interview I recorded on ITV at vo
lume 16 and am niw watching the walking dead recorded on fox at full volume and am struggling to hear it.
I haven't tried changing these settings yet

ive tried everything i can think of on settings on tv n sky box n no difference at all n still low on sound might just be better to take out hdmi n put scart in or buy a sky+ box without hd cause the hd box is absolutely **bleep**e on sound am paying sky a lot of dosh for **bleep**e sound it can go as soon as my contract finishes never again
