Thanks so much I could get my sky Q box to connect to the internet thanks to your tip now working.

That makes zero sense. Had I known sky glass wasn't capatable I wouldn't have purchased @Jayboy1990

Would be interesting to say the least 🙂 I've mentioned the suggestion in the closed forum.

It does work with VM, it would seem VM were having DNS issues.

I remember when Virgin cable blow up and there was no internet for three days in London. Was promised compensation of course never got any.

Before you know it VM will have things back to normal and it will be all over.

It is not a Virgin issue, Sky's network has failed therefore you have no connectivity for Sky Glass as it relies on a working Sky server. I'm using a Sky Q box and dish so have no problems watching and recording, I just can't use catch up at the moment. I'm with Virgin too and broadband is working just fine.

Not wishing to agree or disagree with whomever "fault" this is down to but my Philips smart TV will connect and stream happily with Amazon, iPlayer, Disney+ etc using the VM default DNS; it's only Q/Glass that appears to dislike the default VM DNS address at this time...go figure😉😎

Would sky glass use a different DNS to my laptop etc ( sorry don't know what DNS is really).
if so it would explain why everything else was fine and only the glass went down .
then it connected this evening. Thing is I can't connect to my Sky account now as it's been marked for return with a new one coming.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThis isn't a sky issue, if it were everybody would be flooding this forum with irate posts about glass being broken.
If you have specified specific alternate DNS servers on other devices that's why they are potentially fine, glass can't be overridden with unique DNS details. And the router (hub) can't either.

Hi,
This morning when I first encountered the problem I was still able to stream on the TV and use iPad (trying to find a solution) using the VM default DNS. So, thinking it was Q, I spent hours resetting both Q, VM hub etc without success. Changing the DNS was a last resort, finger in the air thing🥱 but as I say, only the Q box required a change of DNS to work🤷🏻♂️

I've not done anything to DNS servers as I would know how to.
im just confused as to why only the glass went down. Everything else was fine , the wife was in a video conference and all sorts. It started about 10am when lot of virgin customers reported internet trouble.
I was just wondering if for some reason it only kicked the glass out.
sky offered a glass as a fix.
like I said it connected tonight but sky have it tagged for return now and I can't link it to my account now
