Point is you should be able to run a game like counter strike on superfast without jumping to 500 ping, wifi or not. Same issue here on the same games.

Why? The package you have with sky has no relation to your WiFi capabilities. You can't expect WiFi to perform exactly the same in every home. Some homes in the middle of nowhere with zero interference will be decent for WiFi gaming. Other homes in built up areas with lots of homes nearby will suffer greatly.

You pay for the service that is delivered to the hub, if you want to take advantage of that completely then you need to use an ethernet cable.

@Sharon773 WiFi is at the mercy of physics, it isn't magic, and it's not perfect (by a long way), so no it isn't really that good for gaming.
It's the main cause of problems for people when doing things such as gaming, and they often (not always) incorrectly blame other problems.

Outright connection speed is actually pretty irrelevant for gaming, it's useful of course when initially downloading the game, and downloading patches, but to actually play, there is comparitively very little bandwidth you need, and any extra speed will not provide any benefit. A speed of just 1M/b both down and up are all that's really needed.

Latency and Jitter, along with how the data is routed, is usually what causes the lag, and WiFi is very prone to high ping and jitter.
