Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
Where is this "Trial". If it is/was we are participants
where was informed consent, methodology, scrutiny, surveys, questionnaires, audit, and most importantly published results?
This seems a convenient method of cop out by Sky

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
This trial? https://recombu.com/digital/article/sky-york-ultrafast-fibre-broadband-trial-first
It was a trial of the build/install processes, and they'd have gathered usage/support stats, so wouldn't b requiring surveys of customers and there wouldn't be any reason to publish any results.
The outcome would have bene used to shape their future plans around building their own networks.

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
You seem to be focussing on the point that Sky have every right to pull out of a trial, rather than the impact of their decision has on their paying customers. As has previously been posted TalkTalk are continuing to offer the service and there is full expectation of multiple providers also using the fibre line in the coming months.

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
Has anyone actually been cut off yet and tested the theory ?
Sky are cutting me off on Monday !
Like others I've protested about the poor way this has been handled and the fact that the call handlers weren't made aware of what was going on and most said 'but you don't have Broadband with us lol !
I'm hoping on Tuesday to phone TalkTalk and for it to all go smoothly otherwise I'm working from a Cafe for the next few weeks.
I'll keep you posted......

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
I rang TalkTalk again yesterday - I'd already ordered fibre150 and explained the position to them and said I would want to swich back to the FTTP service as soon as Sky dropped me.
( Sky have told me on or shortly after the 18th October - if it's earlier that 30th September when I get the TalkTalk deal I'm screwed)
TalkTalk have advised me to go ahead with the Fibre150 and then I will be able to upgrade to the UFO as soon as Sky release me.

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
If you haven't asked sky to cut you off then you should be ok until the 18th October.
I specifically asked them to cut me off on Monday as I'm done with the whole thing !

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
So ..... Sky cut me off yesterday (as planned)
Talk Talk confirmed 'line still operated by Sky give it 24 hours to clear'
24 hours later - Talk Talk - Yes line cleared now but new message says unavailable to your property (but is avaialble a few doors down ?!?)
Several numbers / hours later I'm now waiting from someone from City Fibre to phone me back.
The worst of it was the talk talk represetnative wondered if there was some kind of 50/50 deal struck at the start of all of this so Sky lines would never be available to them ???!!!!????
I hope they were wrong but coming to the conclusion that this is all just a massive cluster !

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
Ugh, that doesn't sound good 😞
I've just booked a Virgin Media broadband only install - 200Mbps down for £28/mth via MSM plus a £50 Amazon voucher. Had to pay a £30 engineer fee because we don't have a socket tho.
might be worth considering! They had some install dates for next week.

Re: Cancelled Ultra Fibre Optic Broadband
So further developments in this soap opera ......
City Fibre got back to me and said they had looked into it and there shouldn't be a problem with Talk Talk taking over the service.
another call to Talk Talk and still the same message unavailable at your property' and no help !
more calls to Sky, it's really annoying that they have to email someone to phone you back but hey ho they did and said .... We cut you off yesterday at 09:45 and it says it's cancelled on our system. After explaining that it can't be as Talk Talk say it's not he looked further and said that it on another screen it said release pending ! He was going to contact someone else and speak to Talk Talk to hopefully cancel it properly and get back to me tomorrow.
Meanwhile my kids are but I g through mobile data like smarties, crikey bolt ons are expensive 😳
fingers crossed someone gets a grip soon, just think what Reddit could do with this cluster

Earlier this month some of you were contacted by letter to inform you that your UFO service in York will soon be ending. That is not the case.
Your Sky Broadband and Talk will not be closing and both services will continue as normal.
You don’t need to do anything and we’ll send you an email/letter in the coming days to confirm this.
On behalf of Sky, we want to offer our apologies for any inconvenience.

If this is true then it's a cockup of astonishing proportions.

Re: UFO Broadband (York only)
@darthanian42 the post is from the Sky Community Manager whose posts can be trusted thst team only post things they know as a fact. It is a major cockup but at least Mark is holding his hand up on behalf of Sky and apologising.

Re: UFO Broadband (York only)
I'm back ........ on Talk Talk now, after a week of no internet my new router arrived this morning and it all works great again.
It was traumatic up until Wednesday as it was looking like it was not possible to sign up with Talk Talk but then Sky did something else (I think it was a two part close down and they hadn't done one before) and Talk Talk signed me up on Wednesday. After some more trauma Ashely (UFO team) from Talk Talk did a tremendous job of getting everything up and running for me, even phoning me back with updates which was really appreciated. He did say it maybe possible to use my old router until the talk talk one arrived but alas the original one I had kept dropping out after 5 mins so waited for Talk Talk.
After all the conversations I've with both Sky and Talk Talk UFO I've deduced:
1. They knew Sky was pulling out of UFO in 2019 but it was put on hold during Covid
2. The appaling letter we all recevied was even discussed with the UFO support teams at Sky or Talk Talk, if it had been they would have at least had some time to develop a process.
I've just read the post saying Sky aren't going to cut you off now so perhaps I've suffered my kids refusing to call me Dad, £40 on mobile data top ups and about two stone from sitting in coffee shops using WiFi to work from for nothing !!!!
I wa sonly trying to go first to help make it better for the other 600 in York !

Re: UFO Broadband (York only)
@jameshin you are remarkably calm about it given the run around you have been given by Sky.
