after some help
so decided to replace the Sky router after discovering it contains not even a nod towards QOS
picked up a TP-Link Archer VR2100 after reading it works with Sky.
The router syncs to the exchange without a problem. Can I get it to actually negotiate and connect. Not in the slightest.
selected Sky(MER)_VSDL
used the normal username and password.
abcdefgh@skydsl
1234567890abcdef
it then fails the internet test
any help would be much appreciated.

well as a great man once said
"once you have discounted all of the possible then try the impossible"
So i went to the old sky router and obtained the internet interface MAC address.
Then repalced the router with the TP-link and in the setup I set up the MAC address spoofing to make the new TP-link have the same MAC as the old SKY POS.
pressed save and had an internet conntection in seconds. At the same time I had also captured my VDSL username and password using Lineshark.
the username was macaddress@skydsl
password some some hyper secure 8 char random string.
I have left the username/password as the generic set as posted earlier but to solve my connection i had to spoof the MAC address..

Re: TP-link Archer VR2100 not connecting
@Elryrith those are the correct connection instructions for the Sky Superfast service over copper in the UK and wont work for other products including direct copper or for Ireland. Can you confirm the product your are buying and where you are please?

Re: TP-link Archer VR2100 not connecting
@Chrisee i think because you select sky mer vdsl under atm ppp with tp link has maintained the seperation between username and password . And essentials is something like Username: install at o2broadband.co.uk (the at needs changing to @ and spaces removed)
Password: Leave blank
Connection Type: PPPoA
VPI: 0
VCI: 38

Re: TP-link Archer VR2100 not connecting
@cookiemonsteruk don't think @Elryrith is on ADSL as Superfast over copper so MER is correct. Found this walk through which reads as it should work https://kevq.uk/how-to-use-a-tp-link-router-with-sky-fibre-optic/

I nominate @Skull+Treaty for the misbehaved tp link dsl modem router challenge 😁

Re: TP-link Archer VR2100 not connecting
So do I also need to use MAC address spoofing as well to assign the new to-link to have the same Mac as the old Sky router.
This has to be something to do with the login credentials or Mac as the exchange sync works a treat and the sky isn't authentificating the connection

Re: TP-link Archer VR2100 not connecting
MAC address spoofing
No sky will grant dhcp leases to any mac address. Mac spoofing is a thing of the past. Sky will pick up your tp link mac automatically so maybe its expecting the format of client id to match. Give the tp link mac address combinationwa go.

Well done @Elryrith Sky tell us privately you don't need to clone the mac address but clearly your line did. 😀
