Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

Yeah, I watched rugbypass last year on my laptop (MBP 16") and a desktop with a 40something" Dell monitor and it was fine.

Ah ha! There are settings available... For some reason it defaults to Auto 270p... 859kbps. As I have an 80Mbps connectiont o the internet that's a bit... suboptimal. I can stream netflix at 4k, so clearly something isn't right with their detection.

I'm trying it now with 1080p (12Mbps). Much clearer ('canes vs crusaders from '21), and I did get a few dropouts at first, but quality seems to be a bit better now after a minute or so although I get a half second pause at ~5 second intervals

You can also watch in fast forward (Up to 2x speed). But that does get more frequent pauses

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

For the dedicated SR fans, this is probably the best can be expected in the current climate - although it's disappointing there's no broadcast coverage.

Here's hoping the situation changes intime for the summer internationals & Rugby Championship. Huge shame if those are online-only.

What's the beef with online only? TBH it's 10x better than anything sky ever broadcast

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

I can see definite value in streaming as an additional option, over & above a linear broadcast channel. And if a particular event is going to (otherwise) have no exposure, then an online-only option is better than nothing.

But there's no substitute to live events being on broadcast channels IMO, and there's several technical advantages.

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

Name some?

My sky gpoes out more than my internet. Internet doesnt' fail in thunderstorms or heavy rain... No ugly dish on the side of my house for Internet...

I can't think of any tehnical advatages myself at the moment I'm afraid. If there were then sky wouldn't be so scared of netflix, disney+, prime etc.. And much easier to adjust the internet downloads for improved technology than the satellite box. e.g. 4k, 8k etc.

Still cant' get even 4k on my sky mini boxes... Yet netflix (etc) 4k woks fine on the same telly.

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

I'm not going to get dragged into a linear vs streaming debate, that's for another thread.

My previous post says all that's relevant for this thread.

Cool. At least they have made a decision with a bit of time to get it all set up. Bring on Super Rugby!!

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

Its a disgrace that Sky do not have any club rugby, it surely can strike a deal to show super rugby or will BT show that as well. Even Channel 4 have a champions cup tie every round. Come on SKY get some club rugby for your rugby union supporters

Re: Super Rugby Pacific 2022

I've always been a big fan of Sky having Rugby and the Cricket, but now it seems they don't have either so good chance to save a few pennies and turn off sport. Just signed up to the SANZAARRugby  Super Rugby website. Bring it on!!

More on the sanzaar feed

  • It doesn't work well on Live with Safari (Mac). I had to move to Chrome, because Safari locks on Automatic at 270p and won't let you change it (Although manual change on past playbacks was fine).
  • Chrome comes up at Auto 1080p. So the workaround on a Mac is to use Chrome.
  • Their Support is quick. I guess they anticipated that a bit on the first game perhaps...
  • The coverage is a rebroadcast of the Stan feed by the looks for the Warratahs vs Drua. Does Merts count as a token Kiwi or a token Saffa?

I got the native playback problem (Safari) before the coverage started (Around 06:00GMT). But once it came on (About 07:45 or so GMT) it was fine. (Well... Apart from the resolution problems in Safari)
